Michael has over 15 years of experience at Lohn Caulder LLP. After articling with the firm, Michael earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 2006 and joined as Partner in 2013. He is a tax specialist, advising clients on a variety of projects including personal, trust and corporate income tax planning, estate tax, corporate reorganization transactions, purchasing and selling a business, SR&ED, and an assortment of other matters.
He enjoys working with clients in a wide range of industries such as medicine, dentistry, law, engineering, consulting, real estate, computer software development, sales and retail. He specializes in advising clients and their families who own small to medium-sized private companies.
Michael is a graduate of the CICA In-Depth Taxation course and the BKR Leadership Institute. Born and raised in the Greater Vancouver area, he moved to Victoria to earn his undergraduate degree in International Commerce before becoming a Chartered Accountant.
With his wife Sarah and their young children Carwyn & Eli, they live in North Vancouver and enjoy the beautiful West Coast outdoors, walking, biking and hiking. They love to travel and explore the world, but more recently have been too busy being new parents! He is a hockey and Canucks fan, and plays on the Lohn Caulder ice hockey team.
He has been the chairperson for the BKR Canadian Tax Practice Group and has given presentations to different groups such as bankers, financial planners and other professionals on a variety of issues including personal and corporate tax planning, SR&ED, income splitting and tax on split income (TOSI) as well as incorporation planning and other topics.
